(MENAFN) French authorities announced that a French-language radio station would begin broadcasting in Qatar on December 18, the culmination of a joint project between the two countries, QNA reported.
The radio station, named ;Oryx FM’, will be based in Doha and will broadcast 24 hours a day, a statement from the French Foreign Ministry said.
The venture is the fruit of close cooperation between the French External Audiovisual (AEF) body and the Qatar Media Corporation and is a new illustration of the depth and excellence of relations between France and Qatar, the French side said.
The launch of the radio is being viewed here as an important success for Francophone activities in a region that is showing a growing interest in French.
The statement also said that France hoped this radio in Qatar could soon be extended to other countries in the Gulf Region.
