(MENAFN) French engineering group Egis has been granted a contract for rehabilitating a Qatari lagoon, which is raising serious environmental problems, Arabian Business reported.
The lagoon covers more than 4 square kilometer and is discharging 60,000 cubic meters of untreated wastewater per day is onto its site, contaminating the water and producing foul odors.
Ashghal, The Public Works Authority of Qatar, granted the engineering, procurement and construction management (EPCM) contract to regenerate the lagoon.
“The contract further bolsters Egis’ position in Qatar, where the group generated almost 33 million Euros of turnover in 2014 from its contributions to a large number of infrastructure projects,” Egis said.
