(MENAFN) Qatar’s Oil Minister, Abdullah Al-Attiyah, said that the country plans to double the capacity of the Ras Laffan condensate refinery and would issue several contracts for the expansion work in the coming few months, Reuters reported.
Speaking on the sidelines of the Arab Energy Conference, the minister said that the second phase of Ras Laffan refinery will see the addition of about 140,000-145,000 barrels per day (bpd) ) of new capacity to the existing plant.
Al-Attiyah said that the Qatar will proceed with the expansion of the Ras Laffan plant because it was more cost-efficient, and contracts for work will be issued in the next few months, while work would start in 2011.
The minister pointed out that Ras Laffan plant, which produces 24,000 bpd of gas oil, 52,000 bpd of kerosene and jet fuel and 8,000 bpd of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG), will target markets in Southeast Asia and Europe.
