(MENAFN) Abdullah al Attiyah, Qatar’s deputy prime minister and energy minister, said that the bid for Barzan project for offshore gas production is now open and should be awarded early on 2011, reported the national.
The minister said that the contract would amount to around one billion dollars and would utilize the North Field to supply the domestic market. The project will supply gas from the world’s biggest gas field and the first phase of the project should provide 1.4 billion cubic feet per day of gas to the domestic market. This comes as Qatar Qatar plans a major boost in gas-based chemical industry.
Al Attiyah added that First gas flow is planned for 2014. He added that the contract bid is in final reviews. The bid received over least ten expressions of interest from international contractors.
