(MENAFN) Qatar’s deputy minister of labor, Hussein al-Mulla, announced that the oil-rich state is planning the foundation of its first labor union, a move that would enhance working conditions in the country, reported Al Ara Newspaper.
The minister said that the country had been pushed by global trade union authorities to enhance working conditions and provide more protection to worker’s rights, both nationals and expatriates.
It is worth mentioning that Qatar had been pressured by FIFA to enhance workers rights ahead of the 2022 World Cup. FIFA was lobbied by trade unions objecting to the conditions of what they called modern slavery against foreign workers in Qatar.
