(MENAFN) Qatar Railways Development Company deputy Chief Executive Officer, Geoff Mee, stated that Qatar’s 35.7 billion railways would be completed in 2020 and thus would be ready before the World Cup which Qatar is hosting in 2022, reported Arabian Business.
Mee also said that although the company promised that the railway would be ready for the World Cup, the target is two years ahead of it to leave enough time for tests and inspections.
The deputy CEO added that Korean expertise would help in the construction of the rail line which would have over 100 stations and trains with speed up to 350 km/h, and would be 358km long, of which 119km would be underground.
It is worth noting that Qatar Railways Development Company is a joint venture between the Qatari Diar real estate arm of state-owned Qatar Investment Authority, and the DB International subsidiary of Germany’s national railway.
