Qatar’s economy posts growth of 14% in 2011

29 Mar 2012

(MENAFN) Qatar’s Statistics Authority said that the country’s economy in 2011 grew 14 percent, driven by a surge in energy exports, reported Gulf News.

The agency added that in 2011’s fourth quarter, Qatar’s real gross domestic product (GDP) expanded 4.4 percent from the previous quarter.

On the other hand, the International Monetary Fund (IMF) said that Qatar’s non-hydrocarbon sector would maintain annual growth of between 9 percent and 10 percent beyond 2012, due to higher government investment in the sector’s infrastructure.

It is worth noting that Qatar’s economy, which depends on hydrocarbons for more than half of its production, grew 16.6 percent in 2010, according to the IMF.
