Qatar’s healthcare expenditure up 27% in 2011

(MENAFN) A recent global report released by National Health Accounts showed that Qatar topped the Middle East region as the highest per capita healthcare spender, Arabian Business reported.
The cash-rich Gulf state’s expenditure on healthcare increased by 27 percent to USD3.2 billion last year, compared to USD2.6 billion in 2010.
As a result, per capita expenditure stood at USD1,920 in 2011, up from USD1,561 in 2010 .
The report also showed that state funds accounted for 77 percent of expenditure in 2011, up from 75 percent in 2009 and 76 percent in 2010.
The report detailed that hospitals accounted for 57 percent of funding, while healthcare management and financing system represented 8 percent, and outpatient clinics accounted for 14 percent. 21 percent of the expenditure was represented by other service providers.
Families in Qatar spent 13.8 percent of their total direct expenditure on healthcare in 2011, down from 16 percent in 2010. However, the overall value rose to USD457 million last year from USD425.44 million a year earlier.
