(MENAFN) The Chairman of the executive committee of Qatar-based Ras Laffan Olefins Company Limited (RLOC) at Ras Laffan industrial city said that the RLOC has commenced production, The Peninsula reported.
He said in a statement that the ethylene cracker of RLOC is one of the largest in the world and that it is applying a high level of environment safety, adding that the design capacity of the project is 1.3 million tons annually of ethylene that could increase to 1.6 million tons a year.
RLOC is a joint venture between Qatar Chemical Company II Ltd (53.31 percent), Qatofin (45.69 percent) and Qatar Petroleum (1 percent).
RLOC produces ethylene that is transported to Mesaieed via a 120-kilometer pipeline. Qatofin which has a production capacity of 450 thousand tons a year started production of low density linear polyethylene in November last year.
