(MENAFN) The Saudi Press Agency reported that Work on the second phase of the $266 million King Abdullah International Gardens, one of the world?s largest, is scheduled to begin in September this year.
The garden will be built over an area of two-million- square meters in the desert to the west of Riyadh city. Plants, trees and creatures will be brought from different parts of the world to the garden coming up parallel to the Riyadh-Jeddah Expressway.
Work is currently under way to provide ventilation, humidification facilities and earth suitable for the plants that are to be brought in from all over the globe. The first stage of work involving leveling and preparation of the ground is nearly completed.
Set to be the largest covered facility of its kind in the world, the gardens will use recycled water and alternative energy supplies, exploiting solar and wind power as well as rainfall through collection tanks to host plant life.
