(MENAFN) Ruler of Sharjah, Shaikh Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, said that he gave his orders to increase monthly social grant to beneficiaries in the emirate by 45 percent, reported Gulf News.
Shaikh Sultan added that the increase, taking effect as of January 1, 2012 and valued at USD13.72 million, would raise the assistance provided by the Social Services Department to USD44.21 million on annual basis.
On the other hand, director of the Social Services Department, Afaf Al Merri, said that 4,102 families benefit from cash grant in Sharjah and its suburbs, whereas 3,099 families receive their monthly social assistance through Sanad banking cards issued by Sharjah Islamic Bank.
It is worth noting that the social grant would cover retirees who were unable to receive assistance in the past.
