(MENAFN) Tunisia’s Agriculture Minister, Mokhtar Jalouli, said that the country would offer about 10,000 hectares of farmland to foreign investors since Tunisia would have a good grain harvest in 2011 that would surpass 2.1 million tons, reported Arab News.
Jalouli added that this year, the country’s crop of durum wheat would reach around 1.2 million tons, whereas barley crop would reach 0.7 million tons and flour more than 0.2 million tons.
He also said that in order to meet the domestic demand of its 10 million citizens, the country would have to import only 0.6 million tons of grain in 2011.
It is worth noting that the farming sector in Tunisia contributes with 12 percent of the country’s gross domestic product (GDP) and 11 percent of Tunisia’s exports.
