(MENAFN) Research in Motion (RIM), which makes BlackBerry devices, stated that the UAE authorities proposed tight laws restricting popular gadgets such as the BlackBerry device and other smartphones, reported Emirates 24/7.
Canada-based RIM also said that the UAE Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) stated that it plans on restricting access to the Blackberry Enterprise Server system, which is the safest form of communication on the devices.
TRA stated that the new rule would allow only organizations with 20 or more BlackBerry accounts to use the mentioned service, thus leaving less-secure systems to be used by smaller organizations.
It is worth noting that BlackBerry is the most common choice for foreign professionals and wealthy UAE citizens. The country has around 500,000 BlackBerry users currently.
