(MENAFN) Dr. Abdullah Bel Haif, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Public Works, announced a plan for improvement of Shaikh Maktoum Road which connects Fujairah, Al Bathna, Al Bilaida, Defta, Masafi, Marbidh, Al Seeji and Al Dhaid, reported Khaleej Times.
The highway is old and cracked from years of use by heavy trucks coming from the quarries and crusher units in Fujairah, said the Undersecretary. To avoid traffic jams, the construction will not begin until after the opening of the Shaikh Khalifa Highway linking Dubai to Fujairah.
Dr. Bel Haif said that the work on Shaikh Maktoum Road and Khalifa Highway is part of a series of infrastructure improvement projects throughout the emirates aimed at strengthening social ties and creating sustainable economic growth through tourism and business.
