(MENAFN) Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority’s (SCTDA) chairman, Mohamed Ali Al Noman, announced that during 2012, the emirate’s cruise tourism sector is expected to grow 50 percent, reported Arabian Business.
Al Noman said that the number of cruise ships coming to Khor Fakkan Port will reach 2 per week, compared with 1 a week in the 2011-2012 season, with Costa Atlantica, Costa Classica, Costa neoRomantica, Seabourne Pride and Seabourne Odyssey confirming their arrival at the port, which is forecasted to host over 40 international luxury cruise liners with around 130,000 passengers.
He added that during the past season, the port received 23 luxury cruise liners with over 67,000 passengers.
It is worth noting that in 2011, the emirate received more than 1.5 million tourists, with the number expected to grow notably in 2012.
