(MENAFN) The UAE’s Minister of State for Financial Affairs, Obeid Humaid Al Tayer, announced that country would support the election of French Finance Minister Christine Lagarde as she is running for leading the International Monetary Fund (IMF), reported WAM.
Al Tayer said that UAE’s support comes after observing the positive role of Lagarde at her position as the French Ministry of Finance in addition to her impact on the G20 meetings.
Lagarde had already said she secured the support of Bahrain and other Arab countries includiong the European Union.
It is worth noting that the former head of the IMF, Strauss Khan, had resigned his position after being accused of sexual harassment against a hotel maid in the US.
