(MENAFN) UAE’s Telecommunications Regulatory Authority (TRA) announced that it would remove its ban on using Skype, the famous VoIP software, reported The National.
TRA explained that such a decision would be left in the future to the two telecommunication operators in the country which are Etisalat and du. TRA also said that even though using the operators’ internet network to conduct free Skype calls is offensive, it would not impose blocking VoIP technology anymore.
TRA added that an operator can now either ban access to Skype or provide its own VoIP solution.
It is worth noting that VoIP software is illegal in the UAE if not provided with the approval of a licensed operator.
