(MENAFN) Saudi Aramco is close to complete the building of its giant Wasit gas project, but will process gas from the Karan gas field and not from the offshore fields chosen to feed the gas plant.
Upon completion, Wasit is expected to help meet domestic demand during the Kingdom’s peak summer season, but before 2015 ends, it will not process non-associated gas due to technical difficulties.
Gas from offshore Arabiyah and Hasbah gas fields, which eventually will be the source of the gas, has a high carbon dioxide content which Aramco needs to strip from the sales gas.
“This delay is not critical because the peak gas demand season is now almost over and because gas reserves are huge,” said a former senior executive at Saudi Aramco.
