(MENAFN) A spokesperson for Emirates airline said that the company raised charges as a result of increasing oil prices, reported Gulf News.
Concerns about increasing oil prices and oil supply are causing carriers to raise fares. Different companies including Etihad Airways are considering an increase in fares and surcharges.
The spokesperson added that carriers have to balance the jump in fuel prices with improved revenues, or there would be a rise in air fares, fuel surcharges as well as in baggage fees.
IATA stated that airline industry fuel bill is expected to rise by USD10 billion to USD166 billion in 2011.
