BBK launches the “Dual Factor Authentication” to provide more security while banking on the web

21 Sep 2014

Aligned with its strategic commitment to creating safer and more secure online banking experience, BBK, Bahrain’s pioneer in retail and commercial banking, has launched its “Dual Factor Authentication” security feature, a technology that provides yet another level of security when transacting online. It helps protect clients against stolen or lost passwords and unauthorized access to their financial information online.

In addition to a Customer ID and ePIN during Internet Banking login, Dual Factor Authentication provides an additional level of security using a dynamic One Time Password (OTP) that is generated by or sent to the customer’s mobile phone. As the name implies, the OTP is a unique password that is valid for a single login session only and for a short period of time.

Commenting on the launch of BBK Dual Factor Authentication, Mr. A.Karim Bucheery, BBK’s Chief Executive said: “Maintaining our customer confidence and trust is of great value and importance. We at BBK strive to provide continuous improvement, innovation and integration of new technologies especially in the information security arena. Our continuous investment in information technology and security is bearing its fruit as more clients are opting to use the secure online banking platforms.”

During the past few months the Bank also held numerous “E-Banking” roadshows in several BBK Financial Malls to help educate clients on the use of BBK Internet Banking in general and introduce the security features namely the Dual Factor Authentication.

“With today’s fast-paced lifestyle, BBK Internet Banking has proved to be more convenient and faster to our clients whereby it can be accessed through any device from anywhere without the need to visit  the branch.  And in our commitment to providing our clients with a simplified yet secure online banking experience, the Dual Factor Authentication has been introduced to give them peace of mind knowing that all transactions have been authorised and completed by them only.” Mohammed Malik, BBK’s GM Retail Banking has added.

It is also worth mentioning that the smartphone application “BBK Pass”, required to generate the OTP, is available for download at Apple, Google Play, Blackberry World and Windows app stores, or else clients can subscribe using the SMS method whereby they can receive an SMS containing the OTP on their registered mobile number. For any more information on this security feature, kindly visit our website www.bbkonline.com, or feel free to contact the call center on 17-20-7777 or visit any of the BBK branches and the customer service representatives would be more than happy to assist you with your query.
