BBK, a leader in retail and corporate banking in the Kingdom of Bahrain, has announced the launch of the enhanced eKey 2.0 on the BBK Mobile app, offering customers a more convenient and secure way to verify their identity when accessing a range of digital banking services.

The eKey 2.0 system is the national authentication system in the Kingdom of Bahrain, provided by the Information and eGovernment Authority, which aims to simplify identity matching procedures, raise security levels, and enable customers to complete their digital transactions more smoothly and reliably.

BBK customers will be able to use the new verification mechanism after updating the BBK Mobile app to the latest version. Services that support the eKey 2.0 system include opening an account for new customers, updating KYC, reactivating dormant accounts, registering devices, upgrading the authorized device, and updating contact details.

Dr. Ahmed Taqi, Chief Retail Officer of BBK, stated: “We are proud to launch the enhanced eKey 2.0 through the BBK Mobile app, reflecting the Bank’s commitment to adopting advanced national digital solutions and delivering a more convenient and secure banking experience for customers. This development builds on BBK’s ongoing efforts to digitize its services and enhance operational efficiency, in line with the Kingdom of Bahrain’s digital transformation journey and its position as a leading FinTech hub. On this occasion, we would like to praise the Information & eGovernment Authority’s (iGA) pivotal role in developing eKey, a flagship national initiative that continues to strengthen the Kingdom’s position as a regional leader in digital innovation.”

Dr. Taqi further added: “Integrating eKey 2.0 across several key services within the app will help streamline identity verification and accelerate transactions

within a trusted digital environment that upholds the highest standards of information security and customer data protection. This development also reflects the Bank’s commitment to leveraging national digital initiatives to support a smoother and more integrated banking experience.”

Registration for eKey 2.0 is available to residents of the Kingdom of Bahrain. Customers who are not eligible to register, are unable to complete the registration process, or prefer not to use the system may continue to use the manual verification option, in line with the Bank’s existing procedures, which include scanning the identity document and completing a biometric verification check.
