(MENAFN) Abu Dhabi Airports Company’s (ADAC) Chief Executive, James Bennett, said that passenger traffic at Abu Dhabi’s airport in the January-September period grew reaching 9 million, reported Emirates 24/7.
Bennett added that the number would be forecasted to grow at year-end to reach 12 million passengers, whereas it would increase notably in the coming years due to the expansion in the emirate’s economy, in addition to the constant growth at Etihad Airways, Abu Dhabi’s national carrier.
He also said that ADAC’s expansion plans included the renovation of the airport’s terminal 1, the opening of terminal 3, and a new runway in 2009; moreover, the next main expansion would be the new mid-field terminal, which would be operational in 2017.
It is worth noting that Abu Dhabi’s airport handled around 11 million passengers last year, with a rise of 12.2 percent from 2009.
