Abu Dhabi Airports Company sales up 15% in 2010

01 Feb 2011

(MENAFN) An Abu Dhabi Airports Company (ADAC) spokesperson said that the entertainment and sport events that the country holds are the reason behind attracting more tourists to the country and thus airport retail sales hiked by fifteen percent in 2010, reported The National.

The spokesperson said that revenue in Abu Dhabi International Airport increased by nine percent in 2010, year-on-year, and amounted to $158.4 million. The main reason behind this increase was the twelve percent increase in the number of travelers as well as new shops and retail offerings that were introduced in the airport’s terminals.

The official added that Terminal one of the Abu Dhabi’s airport had been undergoing a major refurbishment that started in 2010 and would be launched in summer this year. The new terminal would provide extra retailers and services and thus it is expected to increase ADAC’s revenue.

It is worth noting that travelers to the UAE are attracted by major events such as the Formula 1 as well as Dubai’s shopping festival.
