(MENAFN) Bombardier Transportation’s Vice President for Europe, Middle East, Africa & Brazil, Serge Van Themsche, said that the company signed a USD96 million contract with Saudi Binladin Group, in order to design, build, operate and maintain an automated people mover (APM) system for the King Abdulaziz International Airport (KAIA) development Project in Jeddah, reported Arab News.
Themsche added that in order to meet the needs of increasing passenger numbers, KAIA would expand its current passenger facilities with an additional passenger terminal building where the new INNOVIA APM 300 system would provide the smooth transportation of passengers between terminal areas at the airport.
He also said that the company recently established wholly owned subsidiary in Saudi Arabia which would be the subcontractor to Saudi Binladin Group, leading the project to design and supply all of the system wide Electrical and Mechanical elements for the 1.5 km, dual guideway APM system, adding that the company would provide operation and maintenance services for four years followed by a two year discretionary option to extend to the year 2020.
It is worth noting that Saudi Binladin Group is the contractor in charge of the design and construction of the KAIA Development Project. The group was awarded its contract last year by the Saudi Arabian General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA).
