Commercial aircraft up 25% at Al Bateen

17 May 2011

(MENAFN) Al Bateen Executive Airport’s General Manager, Steve Jones, said that compared with the same month in 2010, commercial aircraft movements increased 25 percent in April 2011, reported Emirates 24/7.

Jones added that due to last year’s revision of the airport’s aeronautical charges and the introduction of the new instrument landing system (ILS) as well as the continuing improvements to its facilities, traffic from both based and visiting aircraft operators increased considerably.

He also said that the airport would witness a notable increased activity from the business sector as Abu Dhabi would continue to develop as a major commercial centre in the gulf region. The location of the airport just ten minutes from the downtown area confirms the strong positioning of Al Bateen as a proficient and suitable facility for business aviation.

It is worth noting that last year, Al Bateen signed a letter of intent with aviation catering firm Gate Group, by which Al Bateen will be the first base for a catering firm in the Middle East region.
