Countries must boycott Syrian oil, gas: Clinton

14 Aug 2011

(MENAFN) US Secretary of State, Hillary Clinton, said that since the US wanted to put pressure on Bashar Al Assad, President of Syria, in order to end atrocious actions against demonstrators, her country called on nations to boycott Syrian oil and gas, reported Gulf News.

Clinton added that president Bashar Al Assad should resign, urging countries to stand by the US in its attempt to impose more sanctions on the Syrian regime.

She also said that Syria’s crude oil exports went mainly to European countries like Germany, Italy and France, where 380,000 barrels per day generated most of the country’s hard currency.

It is worth noting that in March, protests broke out against Bashar Al Assad’s regime, since then, more than 1,700 civilians were killed, according to activists.
