27 Oct 2011

(MENAFN) DP World’s Chairman, Sultan Ahmed Bin Sulayem, said that by the end of next year, the company would expand Port Rashid cruise terminal facilities, reported Emirates 24/7.

Sulayem added that the planned expansion would allow the port’s Dubai Cruise Terminal to handle 5 cruise ships at one time compared with the current capacity of 2 cruise ships that carried 7000 passengers.

He also said that the terminal would boost Dubai’s cruise sector, adding that Dubai Terminal’s tourist traffic growth surged by 30% in 2010 from the previous year to 120 ships and more than 390,000 passengers, and would be expected to grow in the current year with 135 cruise vessels and 475,000 passengers.

It is worth noting that by 2015, cruise tourism in the emirate of Dubai will be expected to witness a growth of 58 percent according to the Dubai Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DTCM).
