(MENAFN) Paul Griffiths, chief executive of Dubai International Airport (DIA), said that with an annual growth rate of 11 percent, the airport is expected to exceed 50 million passengers this year, reported Gulf News.
Griffiths stated that in the past year there were 22 new routes started by airlines that only began operating from the airport last year. These airlines include Indonesian airline Garuda, Air Berlin, Kingfisher and China Eastern.
Griffiths said that in order to assist in the airport’s growth, infrastructure investments such as Concourse 3, are taking place and are expected to be done by the end of next year. These investments would add capacity for another 15 million passengers, raising DIA’s total capacity to 75 million passengers.
