(MENAFN) Dubai Duty Free’s (DDF) Managing Director, Colm McLoughlin, said that in the first half of 2011, DDF sales rose 16.6 percent over the same period in 2010 reaching USD698 million, reported Gulf News.

McLoughlin added that compared with last year, passenger volumes at Dubai International Airport grew despite of the political unrest in the Middle East.

He also said that consumer spending in most categories grew especially in luxury products where perfumes, liquor and gold stayed to be the top three categories in the first six months.

It is worth noting that for 2011, the DDF expects total annual sales to reach USD1.4 billion.
