(MENAFN) The Dubai Department of Tourism announced inauguration of a new cruise ship terminal, hosting the naming of the Italian vessel Costa Deliziosa and will operate cruises from this Gulf tourism hub, Reuters reported.
The Costa Deliziosa has a capacity for 2,800 passengers and is the latest vessel of the Italian cruise company Costa, a unit of Carnival, the world’s largest cruise operator.
The number of cruise ship passengers visiting Dubai, which acts as a regional trade and business center, is expected to grow 35 percent this year, said Hamad bin Mejren, executive director of business tourism at the Dubai Department of Tourism.
He noted that the number of passengers is rising, saying that six years ago, the hub saw 10,000 cruise ship travelers, while in 2009, this figure grew to 263,000 sea passengers, and the figure is on the rise.
