(MENAFN) Dubai Airports’ chief executive, Paul Griffiths, said that in 2011’s first half, Dubai International Airport’s passenger traffic rose 8.8 percent reaching 24.6 million passengers up from 22.6 million in 2010’s same period, reported The National.
Griffiths added that on a daily basis, the number of passengers who passed the airport reached 135,700, which in four years, would make the airport the world’s busiest international air hub.
He also said that Dubai International Airport served more than 130 carriers flying to more than 220 destinations on six continents, furthermore, during the period, airlines launched more than 200 new weekly flights to 19 new destinations across Asia, Europe and Africa.
It is worth noting that during the first half of 2011, the world’s fastest growing regions for passenger traffic included Eastern Europe, where traffic grew 302.4 percent, and the GCC, where it rose by 28.2 percent.
