Dubai regulates marine transport licensing

(MENAFN) His Highness Shaikh Mohammad Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice-President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has issued a law regarding licensing of marine transport in blue and white waters in the emirate, Khaleej Times reported.

Under the law, Dubai Maritime City will be the regulatory body for sea transport and activities in the emirate.

The law covers all means of sea transport including any means of transport in territorial waters and waterways of the emirate for the transport of persons or goods, whether for personal, commercial, tourist or sports purposes.

The law aims to regulate licensing procedures for marine transport operating in Dubai and inspection, and the organization of maritime transport that ensures the utmost security, safety and preservation of the environment, and provide services in the transport of persons and goods to serve the objectives and requirements of economic development in the emirate.

Under the law, the Dubai Maritime City (DMC) is given the responsibility to conduct technical tests, licensing and registration after making sure they meet the prescribed technical specifications.
