Emirates to build USD120m Engine Overhaul shop

(MENAFN) Emirates Airline & Group’s Chairman and Chief Executive, Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al Maktoum, said that the carrier would construct a USD120 million Engine Overhaul facility in Dubai, reported Emirates 24/7.

Al Maktoum added that the new Engine Shop, which would complement the Test Cell Facility in the emirate, would be built on a 90,000 square meter land. Moreover, the construction of the Engine Shop came as a result of the expanding fleet of the carrier.

He also said that the Engine Shop would provide over 500 jobs where most of them would be UAE national, further more, it would provide a cost effective maintenance.

It is worth noting that annually, the Engine Shop will perform 300 engine repairs for the GE90 and GP7000 engines fitted to the B777 and A380 aircraft. The construction operations will start first quarter of next year and will end by the fourth quarter of 2014.
