Emirates tops the world’s largest carriers: IATA

(MENAFN) The International Air Transport Association (IATA) said that for the second consecutive year in 2010, Emirates airline kept its place as the world’s largest carrier by international traffic, reported Emirates 24/7.

IATA added that the Dubai based carrier’s rank went up from seventh place two ears ago to fourth in 2010 in terms of the number of kilometers flown for both combined international and national passenger flights.

It also said that Emirates was the only Middle Eastern airline among the world’s top 15 carriers in terms of passenger-kilometers flown and freight tone-kilometers, adding that it owned one of the major long haul fleets since it had 151 wide bodied jets, it also ordered an additional 193 aircrafts.

It is worth noting the carrier’s profit in the twelve months to March went up 52 percent reaching USD1.5 billion.
