(MENAFN) GCC Secretary General, Abdul Rahman Hamad Al Attiya, announced that the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) region is scheduled to operate the $30 billion railway network connecting all member countries, before the end of 2017, Khaleej Times reported.
According to Al Attiya, the launch of the first phase of the GCC grid project which connects Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and Qatar has already been completed, whereas work on the second phase which connects the UAE and Oman is under way. The third phase will link the UAE’s grid to Saudi Arabia.
The massive rail network will have both passenger and cargo train tracks to help further boost the common economy of the region, added Al Attiya.
