(MENAFN) Gulf Air, Bahrain’s national airline, signed a USD180 million contract with International Aero Engines (IAE) to purchase six of IAE’s new, long-range V2500 SelectTwo engines, Gulf Daily News reported.

The six A321 airbus planes would become the first to be equipped with the new engines at the time of their delivery in 2012

The V2500 engines were selected for their high fuel mileage, reliability, and competitive pricing, Samer Majali, Gulf Air CEO, said.

The new engines will allow Gulf Air to increase profitability and expand its regional route network, the CEO said.
