Iran refutes media claims to supply Jordan with natural gas

18 Jul 2011

(MENAFN) The National Iranian Gas Company’s (NIGC) Managing Director, Javad Owji, said that Iran didn’t offer to provide Jordan with natural gas, reported Tehran Times.

Owji added that some Arab media alleged that the country negotiated with Jordan the possibility to supply it with Iranian natural gas, in order to offset the supply shortage that occurred from the explosion of the Egyptian pipeline which provided both Israel and Jordan with Egyptian natural gas.

He also said that Iran made an offer to provide natural gas to Iraq, Syria and Lebanon, nevertheless, no offer was made to Jordan to provide it with gas via the same pipeline that supplied Iraq and Turkey.

It is worth noting that claims said that the Iranian ambassador to Amman, Mostafa Moslehzadeh, said that his country was ready to export natural gas to Jordan.
