(MENAFN) Iraq’s head of the State Oil Marketing Organization (SOMO), Falah Alamri, said that the country witnessed its highest export levels since the 2003 US-led invasion, as the country produced a total of 2.163 million barrels of oil per day in January 2011, compared to 1.951 million in December 2010, reported Arab News.
Alamri said that the country is not expecting any dropping in its oil exports in the next months. The numbers are even expected to increase.
Alamri said that 409,000 bpd of January’s oil exports came from its northern fields near the city of Kirkuk and 10,000 bpd were taken through Jordan.
It is worth noting that Iraq was expected to produce 3 million barrels of oil per day by the end of the year, going up from around 2.5 million barrels at present.
