Iraq to boost economic ties with US

(MENAFN) Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister Ros Nuri Shawis met with US Assistant Secretary of Treasury Charles Collins to discuss the Iraq – US relations and ways of enhancing them in economic, financial and monetary sectors, AP reported.

The Iraqi Deputy Premier during the meeting said that the Iraqi government has many plans and visions for the advancement of the economic sector in Iraq by continuing to encourage investment.

Referring to the adoption of the Iraqi government a five-year plan to increase capital spending and reducing the deficit and to ensure a sustained economic growth and adoption of transparent policies and support the principle of competition.

For his part, the US official said that the international community looks forward to further steps for the speedy resolution of all your debts and claims and that the United States supports the Iraqi government?s actions in this context.

The two sides stressed the need to preserve the independence of the Central Bank of Iraq because this action would be an important pillar in enhancing the Iraqi economy, and protecting its money in the future.
