Jordan’s MarkaVIP attracts USD5m in funding from US investors

(MENAFN) MarkaVIP’s founder and chief executive, Ahmed Alkhatib, said that the Jordan-based website managed to attract USD5 million in funding from US investors, reported The National.

Alkhatib added that MarkaVIP, which was launched in November 2010, offers discounted clothing from major brands, like Calvin Klein, Cartier and Gucci, and would use the funding it received in a deal led by Lumia Capital, along with Invus Financial Advisors to expand the company’s users base in the GCC.

He also said that at the time being, MarkaVIP’s users’ number reached 800,000 and the site would like to increase the number to 2 million or 3 million over 2012, adding that the company would seek to ink partnership and affiliate deals with other sites.

It is worth noting that MarkaVIP sells also accessories and some electronic goods, and the site has distribution centers in Dubai, Lebanon and Jordan, and will launch another set in Turkey soon.
