(MENAFN) A report issued by Jordan’s Department of Statistics (DoS) showed that the kingdom’s consumer price index (CPI), a measure of inflation, rose by 4.6 percent in the first quarter of this year compared to the same period of 2009, Petra reported.
The report attributed the increase to the rise in the prices of several commodities and services, such as transportation services, which went up by 14.8 percent, fuel by 8.4 percent, education services by 6.5 percent, meat and poultry by 7.1 percent and sugar by 20.6 percent.
During the past month, the CPI edged down slightly by 0.04 percent compared to the previous month of February as the prices of clothes decreased by 2 percent, vegetables by 2 percent, meat and poultry by 0.8 percent, dairy products and eggs by 1.1 percent and sugar by 0.3 per cent.
The report also highlighted that the prices of certain commodities and services rose during March over the previous month, including transportation services, which increased by 0.8 percent, fruits by 2.8 percent, cooking oil by 1.7 percent and tea and coffee by 1.8 percent.
