Kuwait to set up $1.75b women housing fund

22 Aug 2010

(MENAFN) An agreement was reached between the Cabinet and the Parliament’s women’s affairs committee on a recommendation to establish a fund that will provide Kuwaiti women with housing welfare, worth $1.75 billion, Kuwait Times reported.

The recommendation calls for opening a new department in the Public Authority for Housing Welfare to operate the fund and follow up with the housing applications of Kuwaiti women married to non-Kuwaitis, as well as widows, divorced and non-married female citizens.

In the meantime, the women’s committee is preparing to hold a joint meeting with the Parliament’s housing committee, led by veteran MP Ahmad Al-Saadoun, in order to discuss women’s housing rights as part of the set of civil and social rights granted to women by the committee’s law.

In addition to the establishment of the women’s housing fund, they will also discuss the report regarding the amendments proposed to the housing care law at the joint meeting.
