(MENAFN) The Directorate-general of Safety and Aviation Services at the Omani Ministry of Transport and Communications said that the Muscat International Airport posted strong growth in passenger and cargo traffic, Khaleej Times reported
During the first three months of 2010, the airport handled 1.3 million passengers, 33 percent higher than 988,941 in the same period of 2009. The rise was attributed to a hike in frequency of flights by some airlines operating to Muscat, such as Air India, Lufthansa and Shaheen Air International.
Also during the period, cargo loaded and unloaded showed a rise of 65 percent to 22,492 tons from 13,641 tons.
At the Salalah Airport in the south, the number of passengers handled increased by eight percent to 104,997 from 97,043. However, cargo traffic decreased by 11 percent to 281 tons from 315 tons.
