New airport to boost Dubai freight volumes

(MENAFN) The Chief Executive of Dubai Airports said that the company projects almost 50 percent growth in freight volume in the next five years, Reuters reported.

He pointed out that the Dubai World Central-Al Maktoum International, which will open next month, will play a vital role for the growth along with the existing Dubai International.

Cargo tonnage, which totaled 1.9 million in 2009, will exceed 3 million tons by the end of 2015, the official told reporters on the first day of the Arabian Travel Market (ATM).

The new airport will be the world?s largest airport upon completion, which will handle around 160 million passengers per annum and 12 million tons cargo annually.
