Petrofac awards $100m contract to GE in Algeria

19 Apr 2010

(MENAFN) Petrofac said that it has awarded a $100 million contract to GE Oil & Gas for supplying turbo compression equipment to its El Merk central processing facility (CPF) project in Algeria, Reuters reported.

The El Merk project is being developed by Groupement Berkine, a joint operating venture between Anadarko Petroleum Corporation and Sonatrach, the Algerian National Oil Company, in the Berkine Basin of Algeria.

The project will feature GE’s BCL centrifugal compressors, which have unparalleled industry experience for handling high-pressure sour gas reinjection. This technology set an industry milestone by achieving 820 bar pressure during the testing of turbo compression trains for the Kashagan oil field in the North Caspian Sea.

Algesco, a joint venture between Sonatrach, Sonelgaz and GE, will provide local support and maintenance for the El Merk CPF plant, as well as all other GE Oil & Gas key facilities and power stations within Algeria, from its new $36 million investment Boufarik service center, Santiago explained.
