12 Sep 2011

(MENAFN) According to UK’s Independent newspaper, Qatar engaged in talks with the British Racing Drivers’ Club (BRDC), Silverstone owners, about a circuit lease deal worth around USD409.2 million, reported Arabian Business.

Qatar Investment Authority (QIA) stated that they are expected in six months to supervise the circuit development and maintenance projects of the deal, and the company is striving to secure the expenses of the projects.

BRDC required that the investor has to promise that the site remains a motor racing venue and must meet the standard of the British Grand Prix.

It is worth mentioning that Silverstone will become the latest trophy addition to Qatar’s extensive portfolio of British assets in case the deal talks prove successful. Furthermore, 850 racing figures own BRDC such as Nigel Mansell, Lewis Hamilton and Jenson Button.
