(MENAFN) The Qatar Environment and Energy Research Institute’s (QEERI) executive director, Dr Rabi H Mohtar, said that the institute inked a partnership agreement with Spanish Research Centre for Energy Environment and Technology (CIEMAT) in order to develop joint solar research projects in Qatar, reported Arabian Business.
Mohtar added that one of the main areas that would be conducted with CIEMAT was the solar energy, adding that Qatar held huge solar energy resources; moreover, clean, low-cost energy would be very important to the development of the country’s economy.
He also said that within the next 30 years, solar energy was forecasted to be more affordable than other forms of energy at current rates of technological advancement.
It is worth noting that the agreement between Qatar and Spain is part of QEERI’s commitment to help Qatar develop a strong knowledge economy and move away from complete dependence on fossil fuels.
