(MENAFN) Qatari Deputy Premier Abdullah Al-Attiyah said that projects aimed at generating electricity, including the Ras Qurtas and Mesaieed Power Stations, will create surplus of electricity as of next year, QNA reported.
Addressing a press conference on the sidelines of the inauguration of Mesaieed Power Station, Al-Attiyah, also Minister of Energy and Industry, said his government was still exploring ways to optimize the use of this surplus by either an increase in industrial projects or export, when there are real and negotiable offers.
He described the Mesaieed Power Station, which produces 2,000 Megawatts, as a qualitative leap, stressing that economic development and progress is measured by the availability of energy sources.
He said electricity shortage in many world countries has negatively affected their economic development.
