(MENAFN) Qatar’s Emir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, said that the country will donate $1 billion to a fund that aims to reconstruct the war-wrecked Sudan, Reuters reported.
Qatar has sponsored peace talks between the Sudanese government and rebels. Al-Thani commented that the ceasefire agreement was a steadfast step toward a peaceful solution. The deal is intended as a framework for a broader peace deal between the two parties.
Al-Thani pledged that Qatar, which is the world’s top exporter of liquefied natural gas, would help reconstruct the African country by its $1 billion donation to the Sudan fund.
