(MENAFN) Qatargas CEO, Khalid Bin Khalifa Al Thani, said that the company would provide Japan with four million tons of liquefied natural gas (LNG) as sixty additional tanker shipments, reported Associated Press.
Al Thani said that these shipments come as an aid for Japan after the disastrous tsunami that hit the country last month and they would supply electricity to five million Japanese homes.
He added that the first additional shipment left Qatar last week and the whole gas shipments would be transferred to Japan over the next twelve months, but he didn’t mention how much the company would charge for the gas.
It is worth noting that Japan needs additional supplies of fuel for the power factories since many of its fifty-four nuclear reactors were shut down following last month’s earthquake and tsunami.
